Evaluation Of Open/Close Sign
When creating the sign in Adobe Illustrator, I found it hard to add detail, however I think it looks bold and effective with simple, flat colours. I am really happy with the typography, especially on the 3D open sign as it stands out really well against the bright orange base. I feel that by using the three base colours in my theme, it creates a simple effect, standing out to the students. By using a cool, duck egg blue colour for the background, the centre image stands out, pulling me and my eyes in.
I think that to improve the design, I should add some funky designs/images or typography around the centre image to create a more fun design and feel. Overall, I am really happy with the open/close sign, as it would look really good on the plains walls, and on the door window, to attract the students. By using the three simple images, the sign states exactly what the refectory is for quickly and effectively. The drinks cup and the food box relate to the main area for the refectory, eating and drinking. Relating to the fact that there is a lot of food on offer and a variety of drinks to chose from. The peace symbol is very popular with the main target audience, the students, therefore they would quickly relate the image to relaxing, peace and chilling with friends. I have taken into consideration that the peace symbol may relate to the 'no more bombs' during World War 2. Therefore, the client may relate the peace symbol back to this, so I have decided to use the symbol only once on the open sign, to create a statement towards the students.
Evaluation Of Welcome Sign
I am really happy with the welcome sign, as the colours are bright, bold and work really well with the colour theme that I have used. I feel that the lemon yellow, red and orange type colour work really well against the dark red - brown background, as they stand out to the eye. I added the salad and meal images that the refectory provides around the poster to make the students aware of what they provide. The swirly detail in the corner creates a fancy, funky vibe to the relaxing, sophisticated atmosphere. I used my research from David Carson when placing the type as he discards all the typography rules in his work. I loved the random look that is shown across in the placement of the letters, so I wanted to use this inspiration to create a funky poster.
